Marta Vigerstad, LISW
Marta Vigerstad is a Licensed Independent Social Worker. Marta specializes in providing therapy to children and adolescents utilizing Structural Family Therapy. Marta also provides therapy to individual adult clients with specialization in anxiety, depression and trauma resolution.
Families
Marta’s approach includes the whole family system in the therapy process. When families are involved, problems can be solved faster and tend not to return because the entire family system has changed, not just the child. Marta welcomes families who have tried individual therapy for child mood or behavioral concerns without success in the past.
Individuals (age 16 and older)
When working with individuals, Marta uses an experiential approach with a focus on mindfulness and embodiment as a way to facilitate the natural healing process. She is informed by dynamic psychotherapy, body awareness practices, and internal family systems therapy.
Marta earned her Master’s in Social Work in 2018 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Post-graduation, Marta completed a nine-month certificate program in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is currently receiving training in Structural Family Therapy. Marta has been practicing mindfulness since the age of 8 and became a certified meditation instructor in 2018. She has been teaching meditation and mindfulness to individuals and groups weekly since 2014. Upon client request, Marta is available for consultation for those who wish to establish or deepen a regular meditation practice as part of their healing journey.
"People are self-healing geniuses."
